Linda Powell

Music and Imagery for Children

with Linda Powell, MA

Linda Powell offers individual and group Music and Imagery sessions for seven to 19 year-olds who need to develop self-awareness, build self esteem, and find creative solutions for life’s stresses and challenges through natural healing. Sessions may include imaging to a short piece of music, sharing about the experience, and creating artwork. As a result of this experience, participants have healed past trauma and loss, learned how to relax, and expanded self-understanding.

Linda uses the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), which is designed to help children discover their inner wisdom. In individual sessions or small groups, children find and express their unique qualities through the natural healing power of music, imagery, and stories.

Named after German composer Carl Orff, Orff music is an innovative way for children to explore and create music. Children move and dance to rhythms, sing and accompany their songs, and improvise, using both pitched and unpitched instruments and child-size mallet instruments—xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. The emphasis is on experiencing music in ways that are fun and exciting.

The children develop musical and listening skills, enhance coordination, build self-confidence, expand Creativity, and learn to work cooperatively in groups. Through this natural healing process, the children become aware of their own character traits, such as Honesty, Joy, Creativity, Honor, through rhymes, songs, and stories.

Linda Powell shares Creativity, Play, Healing, and Wisdom in her Music and Imagery sessions and Orff Music sessions with young people. Linda taught in public and private schools for 30 years where she expanded her knowledge of the natural healing properties of music.

Her formal music credentials are extensive, including a Master of Music Degree from University of Michigan, Bachelor of Music Education from Boston University, Orff Music Level 3 Certification at Memphis State University, and completion of a three-year training program in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music with the Southeastern Institute for Music-centered Psychotherapy in 1992.

Linda is an independent practitioner not in the employ of the Adawehi Healing Center.
